Born in Ross-shire, Alasdair Grant Taylor studied art at the Glasgow School of Art. Both a painter and a sculptor, Taylor was particularly influenced by the COBRA avant-garde movement, active from 1949-1952. The COBRA artists advocated freedom of colour and form, and drew inspiration from primitive art forms and children's drawings.
