I sort many of my playlists by "album by artist/year" and the albums that are compilations I sort by typing "Various Artists" in the album artist field (all the songs are by different artists). Sep 15, 2017 · In any case, check your iTunes settings under "View/ Column Browser/ Group Compilations" and "(same)/Use Album Artists". Maybe alter those settings to see if that changes things to your liking. Also, verify that you have "Keep iTunes Media folder organized selected.

May 04, 2014 · Album Artist/Album/Year means that the albums will be put in alphabetical order before any year sorting is applied, which is not what you want. You can either create a custom sort order (see the Sorting & Grouping link above), or you can do it manually by clicking the top of Artist column, then holding Ctrl and clicking the top of the Year column.

Oct 31, 2019 · The trick is to set the album name “Sort As” to be the year of release. This way, when iTunes goes to sort by alphabetical order, it only sees the years of release, forcing chronological order. The problem is, you’ll have to do this for every album, which is a bit of a pain.

Using the "Artist" view will allow me to view all artist folders seperately, but once an artist is selected, all albums are sorted by alphabetical album title by default. Sorting by "Folder" is an almost fix, however, only one album can be played at a time.
