Alison Ruttan I am an artist who primarily works within topically focused projects. Each project has come out of questions that emerge from my attempts to understand perceived contradictions in the world around me. For the past 10 years I have been engaged with various questions around the nature of violence as part of a human condition.

Alison Ruttan fixes her attention on buildings destroyed by violence in the Middle East—Israel, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq— and recreates the lost structures in clay. Focusing on news photographs of bombed sites, Ruttan first draws blueprints for the destroyed building, inferring what she can from available imagery.
