Jun 12, 2010 · I have this annoying problem with amarok 2.1.1, on KDE 4.3.5 (Suse 11.2): some mp3s have in their ID3 tags filled up a certain field called "Album artist" (I can't figure out why this field even exist, since not even winamp uses it...) and seems that amarok uses this field with a priority higher than the "normal" field, "artist".

It seems that Various Artists albums are ignored or partly shown. Tags are OK and consistent as far as i can tell. I tried to import from file and move to collection but Amarok split my albums in many folders, sorted per artists (the nightmare!!!)

May 25, 2018 · 'artist' is the artist or even several artists of given track. 'album artist' is the pseudo-artist of whole album. i wrote 'pseudo' because it usually is something like 'various artists'. 'album artist' tag is intended mostly for compilations. if stored 'album artist' tag is empty then its *displayed* value (everywhere except for tag editor) will be gotten from 'artist' tag.
