Amy Lansburg My work has evolved from a self-taught furniture maker, based on Lake Superior driftwood, to the mixed media figurative works that I made as a child but had no wood working skills to assemble. The driving force or inspiration behind the majority of my works is American Civil Rights and African parables.

Amy Lansburg started out building furniture before serendipitously discovering her abilities as a fine artist. When building full-scale furniture became too physically demanding, Lansburg would sit in her studio and carve tenons from small twigs, eventually making small chairs. These chairs came to be called “Pajama Chairs,” because Lansburg would often make them at three in the morning in her bathrobe.

Amy Lansburg. Amy began as a self-taught furniture maker utilizing Lake Superior driftwood and re-purposed items. Small chairs, later evolved into figurative pieces, which is the primary focus of her current work. Working with natural materials, Amy says, has been a journey in personal growth. Patience, perseverance, and determination have all been tested in the process.
