Ann Newdigate is a visual artist who is currently writing and composing simple morality tales inspired by Jonathan Swift, and in deference to her studies in Anglo Saxon and Chaucer. Previously she referenced instruction manuals, items from newspapers, or geography publications, and often represented the secret code of Pitman’s shorthand.

Ann Newdigate was born in Grahamstown, South Africa in 1934. She studied African Studies and English Literature at the University of Cape Town, receiving her Bachelor of Arts in 1964. She moved to Canada in 1966 and studied at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon with artists including Eli Bornstein, Stan Day, Otto Rogers, Mina Forsyth, and Warren Peterson.
