Arthur Barton was artist-in-residence from 1935 to 1970. In the 1950s, he designed a happy entry ‘face’, which became an iconic symbol. In 1979, the Ghost Train ride caught fire, killing seven and leading to the Park’s closure. In 1981 Luna Park (Holdings) vacated and auctioned the extant fittings.
