Felix Kelly. Kelly, a New Zealander, had no formal art training. Nevertheless he taught at Auckland School of Art before moving to London in the mid-thirties. Read thought that there was ‘always some element of poetry discovered by his imagination rather than his recording eye’. And indeed, Drifter and Steamers can be described as one of the most poetic of the School Prints.

Nov 27, 2018 · Felix Kelly is one of New Zealand's most interesting expatriate artists. Born in Epsom in 1914 he claimed to be two years younger most of his adult life. Kelly studied briefly, and even seems to have taught drafting at Elam School of Fine Art. He was only 21 when he left New Zealand in 1935.

Felix Kelly was born in Auckland, New Zealand, on February 3rd, 1914. In 1939 he moved to London, where he worked as a graphic artist and designer for Lintas, the advertising wing of Unilever. During the Second World War Kelly served in the Royal Air Force and was commissioned as a navigating officer, concerned with the delivery of fighters to operational units.
