DeHaven served as the President of the Salmagundi Club in 1926-27. In addition to his career as an artist, DeHaven was a violinist and a luthier as well. He numbered an old Italian violin which was made in Cremona among his prized possessions. He was familiarly known as Pop to the members of the Salmagundi Club.
