Rossi (Swiss, 1853 - 1923) was a Swiss-born painter. Rossi painted genre scenes with a subtle vein of social criticism, mountain landscapes, scenes of peasant life and portraits. Signed lower right register. Measures approx. 9" x 14", with frame 12.5" x 17.5".

Luigi Rossi is known for Symbolist painting. Luigi Rossi studied at the Accademia di Brera in Milan under Giuseppe Bertini. In the 1870s and early 1880s he devoted himself to landscape painting, celebrating his first successes in various exhibitions. During his stay in Paris from 1885-1889 he worked as an illustrator of novels.
