History of the Clubhouse. Designed by Alfred Leete, Artists Rifles. The Artists Rifles Regiment formed in 1859 as one of Queen Victoria’s Voluntary Forces. The Regiment had always attracted leading figures in London life and their recruitment slogan stated “only gentlemen need apply”. In 1926 they built the Artists Rifles Clubhouse at Bisley as a training and a social base for their shooting teams.

The Artists Rifles Clubhouse was built in 1926 at a cost of £2,200 and paid for not by the War Department but by members of the Artists Rifles regiment. The clubhouse became the property of 21 SAS in 1947 when the Artists Rifles regiment was amalgamated into the SAS regiment.
