I used to like and use the grain filter which I think was listed in the artistic filter gallery, but that no longer is available.

Mar 22, 2015 · Photoshop: Artistic filters are grayed out. I have Photoshop CC and my artistic, brushtrokes and distort filters are grayed out.My image is in RGB, and in 8 bit, I have the "Show all filter gallery groups and names" checked. Some images are fine, and this one is not.Any ideas?

Jan 03, 2012 · In fact, the answer most likely is staring us in the face, right beside the menu: Yes indeed, we are working with a file that has 16 bits per channel, clearly displayed as “RGB/16” in the caption bar of the image. This is the single most common reason for the filters to be greyed out.

Aug 01, 2014 · The Filter Gallery (and all other entries for it) will be grayed out if your document is not in a color mode and depth that Filter Gallery can work with. The Filter Gallery filters only support RGB and Grayscale, in 8 bit/channel. And all of this is documented in the online help.

Jul 10, 2013 · If you have an adjustment layer (like curves, levels, etc.) highlighted in the layers pallet, practically all the filters will be greyed out, because you can't apply a filter to an adjustment layer (though you could select the filter's mask and apply the filter, but it may not give the effect you expect).
