I've noticed that the 'artistic' filters are greyed out when ever I want to apply an artistic filter to an image. I used to like and use the grain filter which I think was listed in the artistic filter gallery, but that no longer is available. Has adobe discontinued artistic filters and the grain filter in particular?

Jul 10, 2013 · If you have an adjustment layer (like curves, levels, etc.) highlighted in the layers pallet, practically all the filters will be greyed out, because you can't apply a filter to an adjustment layer (though you could select the filter's mask and apply the filter, but it may not give the effect you expect).

Dec 06, 2012 · The problem is that most of these artistic filters have not been upgraded to support 16-Bit-Per-Channel images The Filter Gallery is grayed out in Photoshop CS6 when none of the filters can be used on the open image. So, if you are processing a 16-Bit image, the Filter Gallery will be grayed out.

Dec 07, 2010 · Any reason why I can't activate the Artistic Filter in Photoshop 6.0? I created a print with the spatter brush from a photograph that was scanned but now I'm unable to duplicate the procedure. The "Artistic Brushes" remain "greyed out" unless I turn on the quick mask which then masks the layer and leaves me unable to add the filter.

Aug 25, 2014 · Allow Filters is set to YES. As I previously explained, right-clicking and choosing 'open', opens the form with the Filter icon (and Find icon) grayed out. Changing to form view (even though I am already in Form View), activates both icons. Double-clicking the same form, opens the form with the Filter icon (and Find icon) both active.
