Jun 03, 2011 · i bought Photoshop cs5 and it worked great for a long time then some of the filters quite working. when you go to the filters drop down menu there are more expandable options like artistic blur, brush strokes, render, etc. but instead of being bold the words are a grey color and i can't click on them to expand. some of the filters work and some don't. like render i can click and have it expand ...

Hi, I'm on photoshop CC19. I've noticed that the 'artistic' filters are greyed out when ever I want to apply an artistic filter to an image. I used to like and use the grain filter which I think was listed in the artistic filter gallery, but that no longer is available.

Filter Gallery (and all other entries for it) will be grayed out if your document is not in a color mode and depth that Filter Gallery can work with. The Filter Gallery filters only support RGB and Grayscale, in 8 bit/channel. And all of this is documented in the online help.

Filter Forge 9 works OK in Photoshop 2020. As does the Topaz Filters. For me the Nik filters run in Photoshop 2020 but when you click OK, nothing gets applied. However, I did find a workaround of sorts on Youtube. If you make a layer of your image and convert it to a smart layer, then the Nik filters will apply to the smart layer.
