Oct 20, 2009 · The idea of the Backstop is that you tighten your trem springs into the body so the trem would go into the body (and the strings go sharp). The backstop pushes it back to normal, so there is a tension on the trem. If you now bend a string this tension gets lower, but not low enough to raise the trem and make the other strings go flat.
