John Young Zerunge was born in Hong Kong in 1956 and moved to Australia in 1967. He read philosophy of science and aesthetics at the University of Sydney and then studied painting and sculpture at Sydney College of the Arts, specifically with the conceptual artist Imants Tillers and musical prodigy (the late) David Ahern.

John Young's art has been informed by a succession of theoretical frameworks: conceptual art, deconstruction, post-modernism and postcolonialism. As an art student, he was involved in affronting project such as the Sydney College of Arts magazine Z/X and a punk band called the Slugfuckers. Yet he is also the creator of some of the most elegant contemporary art in Australia.

John Young is a Hong Kong born, Australian artists who lives and works in Melbourne. Since his first exhibition in 1979, Young has had more than 70 solo exhibitions, including two survey exhibitions (Tarrawarra Museum of Art (2005-06) and at the Drill Hall Gallery, as well as over 160 group exhibitions.
