The Scheme was reactivated during the Second World War, and for the Korean and Vietnam wars. In 1999 the Scheme was renewed when artists were appointed to depict peacekeeping operations in East Timor (Timor-Leste).

Norman Lindsay (1879-1969) was a painter, draughtsman, illustrator, cartoonist, printmaker, writer and sculptor. He joined the Sydney 'Bulletin' magazine as a staff artist, 1901-09, 1910-23 and 1932-58. During the First World War he produced jingoistic cartoons and pro-conscription posters.

Australia entered the First World War along with Britain in August 1914. The government was not slow however in attempting to stimulate recruitment in a country where conscription was forbidden. In addition to posters the government despatched specially inscribed postcards (e.g. 'Hasten!', 'Hurry!') to the homes of men who had not enlisted to date.
