About the Artist Born in Texas in 1945, artist Benjamin F. Long IV grew up in Statesville, NC, and studied at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the Art Student’s League in New York. He later lived in Florence, Italy, where he began his apprenticeship under Maestro Pietro Annigeni.

St. Mary's Episcopal Church. Mystery of Faith, 1977. In the spring of 1972, Father J. Faulton Hodge met the artist, Benjamin F. Long (Ben), at the home of Phillip Moose, a prominent artist in Blowing Rock. Mr. Moose and Father hodge discussed for 15 minutes the plan of Mr. Long building the fresco for free. In spring of 1974 Ben contacted Fr. Hodge, saying that he was ready to do the fresco they had discussed.
