Artist Benjamin F. Long IV has become renowned worldwide for his frescoes, two of which adorn the commons area of Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church in Wilkesboro. One of the frescos depicts Saul’s (later he became Paul) conversion experience on the road to Damascus, where he was blinded by the light. The second fresco depicts the Apostle Paul writing his epistles while imprisoned.

St. Mary's Episcopal Church. Mystery of Faith, 1977. In the spring of 1972, Father J. Faulton Hodge met the artist, Benjamin F. Long (Ben), at the home of Phillip Moose, a prominent artist in Blowing Rock. Mr. Moose and Father hodge discussed for 15 minutes the plan of Mr. Long building the fresco for free. In spring of 1974 Ben contacted Fr. Hodge, saying that he was ready to do the fresco they had discussed.

Feb 10, 2021 · Housed at the Statesville Civic Center, downtown at the corner of South Center Street and West Front Street, is a beautiful fresco called "Images at the Crossroads”. The fresco is the work of talented fresco artist Ben Long, who grew up in Statesville.
