May 22, 2020 · Upon their return to New York, Blakelock began working out of fellow artist and later president of the National Academy of Design Harry Watrous’s (1857–1940) studio in the Sherwood Building. It was here that Blakelock painted his masterpiece Brook by Moonlight (Toledo Museum of Art, FIG. 2 in Mitchell, “Blakelock in the Eyes of Artists”).
