Jan 01, 1970 · Bob Wood was an American illustrator and artist for the Harry "A" Chesler Group during the American Golden Age of comics. He created illustrations for various pulp crime novels. As a comics artist he was co-creator of the series 'Crime Does Not Pay' (1942-1955), alongside Charles Biro. Ironically enough, Wood's own father was caught up in various criminal affairs and eventually committed suicide.

In June of 1934 Bob Wood was seventeen, and had completed the eleventh grade of high school. Over the next three years his talent as a cartoonist was brought to the attention of Harry A. Chesler, who ran one of the first comic shops in New York City. In 1937 Bob Wood collaborated with Charles Biro (1911-1972) to produce "Goodbyeland," a daily newspaper comic strip that ran in syndication for one year.
