Looking through the previous Bruno catalog, this change makes sense. The Tempo Grande banjos were already out of date in 1927, featuring open backs and friction tuners; at $70-110, they were expensive anachronisms. The Royal Artist line ($125-200) were much more up-to-date, but still expensive enough that they probably received few orders.

Dec 31, 2020 · The Bruno Royal Artist banjo was a brand name for jobber C. Bruno & Son of NYC. Bruno and Wm. L. Lange had a close business relationship from the very beginning (1897) until the later 1920's. The Royal Artist appears to have been introduced in 1925 but hard to document that exactly.

Oct 23, 2009 · Bruno did not make musical instruments - it only wholesaled them to the trade. Bruno, for example, was a distrubutor for Rettberg & Lange Orpheum banjos. Occasionally, Bruno would brand a banjo with "Bruno" They had two very nice banjos, The Royal Artist and Tempo Grand, branded "Bruno". These handsome instruments were probably made by Wm. Lange.
