This modern painting is the earliest oil by Claude Clark to appear at auction--painted while the artist was a student at The Pennsylvania School of Industrial Arts. In 1935, Clark won a four-year scholarship to the commercial art school, where he majored in book illustration.

C. Myron Clark (1858-1925) was a painter of mountain landscapes in oil and watercolor, as well as ships (USS Constitution, 1906; Frigate in Tow). He worked mostly in Massachusetts, though his oil landscape of Mounts Skihist and Lilovet was painted north of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada in 1921.
