(1905-1998) Born in Campton, Kentucky, McKenzie learned to whittle from his grandfather at the age of ten. Having no formal education, he started out as a farmhand in Ohio. McKenzie later worked at a steel plant and an iron and company in Middleton, Ohio. He retired in the late 1950s and subsequently carved full- time for income and pleasure.Nationality: American

Carl McKenzie was born near Pine Ridge in Wolfe County Kentucky. Carving was McKenzie's full time occupation. At the age of ten he learned to whittle from his grandfather. He brought his early work to the Daniel Boone Trading Post, a tourist stop near Natural Bridge State Park, and soon it was selling so well that he could not keep up with demand.

Carl McKenzie carved throughout his life becoming well know for his ambitious Devil Family carvings as well as his female figures which portray women in a variety working roles. He also made his own brushes from split twigs and then covered his carvings with thick layers of bright paint applied in polka dots or splotches of red, green, yellow and black.
