Early in 1934, shortly after his first retrospective exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, Hopper painted a canvas based on Prospect Street, Gloucester, titled Sun on Prospect Street (Cincinnati Art Museum, Cincinnati, Ohio, fig. 1).
