Dec 01, 2007 · A newspaper illustrator and lithographer, Francis (Frank) Schell became a noted illustrator of the Civil War for Frank Leslie's Illustrated News. He completed over 200 pictures that were published. His birthplace is unknown, and after the war, he settled in Philadelphia where he was in charge of the Art Department for Leslie's.
