Over the past 20 years my tying has graduated to the art of creating the classic Atlantic Salmon patterns.I enjoy tying these patterns in the freestyle method of which no particular recipe or pattern is followed. Nov 11, 2012 · I have been interested in exotic feathers for as long as I can remember. Each summer the birds go into a molt and it seemed such a shame to throw away such rare feathers. Finding good quality classic fly tying materials is increasingly difficult.Imports from Asia have all but been cut off.

You can still do a superb salmon fly with very common and cheap feathers but definitely you cannot expect to achieve good aesthetic results if you don’t craft your painting on the right canvas. I consider hooks as the canvas of our tying art and I see many other tiers nowadays share this same concept.
