1888-1962 Constance Cochrane was born in the United States Navy Yard in Pensacola, Florida, to a naval family, her love of the sea emerging at a young age. Her first art courses she took at the Philadelphia School of Design for Women (now Moore College of Art), studying under Elliot Daingerfield and Henry B. Snell.

Constance Cochrane began to paint when she was about six and demonstrated considerable artistic inclination during her high school years.
