Biography. In 1962, in a bold effort to impress an art student he was pursuing, David Gilhooly enrolled in his first ceramics class at the University of Davis, California, in a decision that would ultimately begin his career as a sculptor. Gilhooly formed allegiance with other students, beginning what would later become known as The Funk Ceramic Movement of the San Francisco Bay Area.Nationality: American

David Gilhooly. Born in Auburn, California, Gilhooly graduated from the University of California, Davis in 1965 with a BA and in 1967 with an MA. Gilhooly worked with Robert Arneson, Peter Vandenberge, Chris Unterseher, and Margaret Dodd, in TB-9 (temporary building 9) and together they created what was later called The Funk Ceramic Movement of the San Francisco Bay Area.
