Mar 05, 2021 · While in an art class in high school in Wisconsin in 1954 David Mekelburg had his first contact with letters as art. In this class he also experienced the Speedball C pen, a chiseled edge pen that is basic to much calligraphy. Soon he discovered Edward Johnston's pioneer book and learned about the Foundational Hand.

Mar 03, 2021 · Calligrapher extraordinaire, David Mekelburg designed over 700 greeting cards, calendars, and other products for The Printery House in the 1960s and 70s. Throughout his career, he polished his superb skills with guidance from teachers such as Sr. Leonarda Longen, O.S.B., Fr. Edward Catich, Ade Bethune, and Sr. Corita Kent.

Aug 08, 2010 · One year David Mekelburg was the guest artist in which he presented a film as well as teaching practices of Corita Kent at Immaculata Heart College. He was one of her students and I believe he also taught there until the school closed.
