David Emmett Williams (native name: Tos-que; August 20, 1933 – November 1985) was a Native American painter of Kiowa-Tonkawa/Kiowa-Apache heritage from Oklahoma. He studied with Dick West at Bacone College, and won numerous national awards for his paintings.

David Williams (1933-1985) Tos-que. David Emmett Williams was of the Kiowa /Tonkawa/ Apache Tribes of Oklahoma. His native name was Tos-que, meaning “Apache Man.”. He attended Bacone College and came under the influence of the distinguished art educator, Richard West, a member of the Cheyenne tribe, where he learned composition and how to achieve perfection in his art.

Had a friend (since passed) who knew him well and purchased many of his paintings as well as many others. Muskogee was and still is the center of many Indian artists.

Essentially self taught David began seriously experimenting with watercolour techniques in 1977. His imagery often combined geometric designs with a multitude of stylized images of animals in order to recall a time that has since disappeared.
