Dennis Stanford. Native Californian Dennis Stanford’s early interest in ceramics led him to earn a Bachelors degree in Fine Arts. A twenty year career as a commercial artist followed. Throughout this time he painted plein air in watercolor and exhibited widely. In 2000 Stanford focused more time on his painting and transitioned to oils with subjects ranging from landscape and still lifes to figurative.

Dennis took a different path to arrive at painting. After finding his facility in art, It was unavoidable that it would end up being a lifelong pursuit. However, coming from a background of meager means, even thinking of trying to make a career out of art seemed frivolous.

Dennis Stanford was born and raised in a small town outside of Riverside in Southern California. An interest in ceramics and teaching led him to an eventual BA in Fine Art and Teaching Credential from California State University, Fullerton. After graduating, Dennis and his wife moved to Northern California.

Dennis ended up finding slightly related work that would produce an income. In his spare time he continued to pursue painting with a loosely formed group of like-minded artists that began to show and sell. After a few years, Dennis achieved a yearly one person show at a gallery in Sacramento. Dennis’s path differed from others in the field.
