Derek "Dek" Fearnley was bassist in the Buzz, the group that backed David Bowie live for most of his 1966 live shows, and also supported him on a couple of singles that year. The Buzz and David Bowie split in December 1966, but the Buzz did do some sessions with him for Bowie 's debut album in early 1967, and Fearnley had the strongest role of any Buzz member, as he also helped with arrangements.

Derek (Dek) Fearnley was a member of David Bowie's 60's band The Buzz. He also worked closely together with David Bowie on its first solo album in 1967. Following a prolonged battle with cancer, Dek died in hospital in East Sussex in the UK on Saturday November 1st 2008, aged 69.

Since then I have been a member of the Guild of Aviation Artists, awarded the B.A.C. Trophy and Quantas Trophy for aviation paintings, and a member and chairman of the Guild of Railway Artists.

Alan Fearnley was born in Yorkshire in 1942 and studied at Batley College of Art. After college, he worked for several years as an illustrator at a commercial studio, after which he went on an independent voyage. In 1974, Fearnley became a member of the Aviation Artists Guild, and was awarded the BAC Trophy and Quantas Trophy for his work on aviation.
