The sculpture is one of a series of works Brown began making in 1999 using his wife as a model. All the works are made to scale using Yoko Brown’s exact measurements; the sculptures vary between half and three-quarter scale. They are all cast in the same white acrylic composite resin but the figure is variously dressed and posed in each.

Donald E Brown is a Portland, Oregon artist specializing in portraiture who captures his subject in beautiful color. His fauvist style is used to portray the character and personality of each subject, and yet he maintains a visually recognizable portrait quality. Don Brown moved to New York around 1920 to study at the Art Students League. Very likely the first Texas artist to be exposed to the then budding American Art movement later know as Regionalism, Brown studied with Boardman Robinson, Thomas Hart Benton, Kenneth Hays Miller and John Sloan. In 1923 he moved to Paris to study with Andre L'hote.
