Biography. American artist Don Stivers was born in 1926, and as a youngster, discovered his passion for art. He studied at the California College of the Arts in Oakland. Stivers grew up in Superior, Wisconsin, and took art training at the California College of Arts and Crafts after serving in World War II as a Navy corpsman. He had a 15-year career as a commercial artist on the West Coast and then moved East, where he had magazine commissions from Reader's Digest and Field and Stream , and book cover work for the All Creatures Great and Small series of James Herriot.
