Dorothy Winslade was born on the Isle of Wight, England in 1898. She came to the United States in 1924 and studied at the California School of Fine Art in San Francisco (now San Francisco Art Institute). Most active in the 1930s and 40s, her work was often exhibited at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Oakland Gallery, the Oakland Museum and the San Francisco Society of Women Artists.Nationality: British

As a young person, Winslade studied art in London as well as Paris. She came to the United States in 1924 and began to seriously consider herself an artist. From 1931-1935 Winslade attended the California School of Fine Art (today the San Francisco Art Institute) where she met Oswald Kurman, a well-respected landscape painter.
