Dui Seid . An optimist by nature, Dui Seid graduated from New York's Cooper Union and began making art which he describes as ‘spiritual’: immaculately constructed biomorphic sculptures that evoked the process of evolution. His focus changed in the 1980s when a close friend, and then another, became ill and died from AIDS.

In retrospect, Seid recounts long-time interest in the Chinese carved ivory landscapes that he calls "concentric universes" and in the dioramas at the American Museum of Natural History. Seid was among the first artists in the eighties to utilize the diorama as source material to resonantly blur the distinction between nature and culture.

For Dui Said, dealing with AIDS is an everyday occurrence, as the artist provides volunteer home care for PWAs. In response to his experiences with those who suffer trauma and pain of bodily deterio- ration, Seid created a series of anthropomorphic sculptures, such as Node(1987), thatsuggestbones, veins, and flesh in states of decay.
