In the year 1924 Ted changed his signature on his paintings abruptly from a square form to a rounded form. The first instance of this was signed Edward H. Thompson but soon it was usually shortened to Ed. H. Thompson and with no date. The reason for the change in style is not apparent.

When Colin W. Richardson first encountered the paintings of the Cumbrian artist Edward Thompson he could not find any biographical information on the work or the life of the artist. So he ended up compiling a book using recollections from Thompson’s family, friends and anyone who owned a Thompson painting. The book was printed privately with a limited print run of 1,000 and is now sadly out of print.
