1860-1946. Born in Lehi, Utah, Edwin Evans was an important early Utah landscape painter. He was trained in Salt Lake City by pioneer painters Dan Weggeland and George M. Ottinger and later called on an LDS art mission in Paris, France. Together with John Hafen, J. B. Fairbanks, Lorus Pratt, Evans studied the academic painting tradition in the Académie Julian.

UAP Biography. Born in 1860, Edwin Evans, like J.T. Harwood, grew up in the small town of Lehi, Utah. Evans was a sketch artist, painter, and a teacher. He died in California March 4th, 1946. In the fall of 1888, Evans joined other Utah artists in Paris. Later, Evans received support from the L.D.S. Church as a member of the French Art Mission, along with John Hafen, J. D. Fairbanks, and Lorus Pratt.

In 1890, he was one of a group of painters who studied in Paris under the sponsorship of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church), in preparation for painting murals at the nearly completed Salt Lake Temple.
