Accessed through a working boat yard, the artists’ area has a wonderful, and very photogenic, bohemian feel to it. Aug 07, 2018 · It is generally accepted that Eel Pie is a private Island. The best way visit is during one of the Eel Pie Island Artists Open Studios which happen a few times a year. Check out the website to find out when the next Open Studios is scheduled for, One of the best places to get a view of the island is from The Barmy Arms Pub, just across the river.

In its current incarnation, the island is home to around 50 homes, two boatyards and a range of small businesses and artists’ studios. These artist studios, collectively known as Eel Pie Island Art Studios, for a few brief periods each year open their doors to the public and allow the artists to sell their works. Dec 12, 2012 · Just twice a year Twickenham’s Eel Pie Island opens its doors to the general public when the normally private island holds open studio weekends for its artists. I availed myself of the the opportunity to visit last weekend for the pre-Christmas opening and crossed the bridge to this most exclusive island, which boasts 26 artists’ studios, only 50 or so houses and around 120 residents.

In addition to mixed dwellings and a nature reserve, the island is home to 26 artists studios all situated in and around a working boatyard. Twice a year, the island opens up to the public and the studios open their doors to interested visitors providing a unique opportunity to see inside a real working artist’s studio, talk to the artists and purchase or commission new art works.

They have maintained the Eel Pie Island Boatyard ever since as an affordable space for artists and boat enthusiasts.
