Richard Gandhuwuy is the traditional owner of Galiwin'ku, on Elcho Island in North East Arnhem Land (Dhuwa moiety). He is a senior Liyaguwumirr clan leader and an artist. Gandhuwuy tells creation and dreaming stories through a range of mediums including bark painting, carving, painting on canvas, paper and on bodies, and screen printing.

Artist Judy Manany demonstrated traditional string making technique at the ANKAAA AGM in November. The fibre is from the inner bark layer of the Kurrajong tree, which is then pounded and softened to be hand spun into string. Elcho Island artists use bush string to make bags, baskets, mats and to adorn the magnificent Morning Star poles.
