-artist statement For over twenty years, Eleanor Neal has been creating stunning paintings and prints that have found their way into private and public collections both here and abroad. Inspired by nature, her travels, and recently beckoned by the raw splendor of the Deer Isle in Maine where she spent a summer at the Haystack School of Crafts, she has found her artistic voice as a landscape artist.

Eleanor Neal received her MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Eleanor lives in Atlanta, GA. Exhibitions include MOCA GA, 2019, Gathered IV. She was also an award winner in the exhibition. Her work was selected for the MOCA GA Works on Paper: 1980-2013 Women from the Permanent Collection Exhibition.

Eleanor Neal is a contemporary artist who explores themes of empowerment of women, cultural identity and history. She lives in Atlanta, Georgia and has a studio at The Goat Farm Arts Center. Eleanor is intrigued by the stories from the women of West Africa, Guadeloupe and the Gullah islands near the Georgia Sea Coast who fought to survive in a world of darkness, enslavement and chaos.

Eleanor Neal was born in Gary, IN and graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Fine Art and a Master’s of Science Degree in Art Education. Neal has exhibited solo at Dillard University, New Orleans, LA, 2000 and at the State Capitol Exhibition for the National Black Arts Festival, Atlanta, GA. She currently teaches art while continuing to create new artwork.
