Elger Esser Elger Esser was born in Stuttgart, Germany, in 1967 and was raised in Rome. In 1986, he moved to Düsseldorf, where he worked as a commercial photographer until 1991. He then attended the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, studying with Bernd and Hilla Becher, until 1997.

Elger Esser (b. 1967, Stuttgart) lives and works in Düsseldorf, where he also studied photography at the Academy of Fine Arts under Bernd and Hilla Becher and graduated in 1997. Since 2006 Esser has his own professorship for artistic photography at the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design.
