Elizabeth Wyn Wood was born in Orillia, Ontario in 1903. She studied at the Ontario College of Art, Toronto, specializing in sculpture in her postgraduate year (1926). She married her sculptor instructor Emanuel Hahn in 1926, and later studied one year at the Art Students League, New York. In 1930 she won the Willingdon Arts Award for sculpture.
