Born in Chicago, Ellen Lanyon (1926-2013) studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (BFA, 1948) and the University of Iowa, Iowa City (MFA, 1950). She completed her education at the Courtauld Institute of Art in London in 1950-1951 while on a Fulbright grant.

Lanyon studied at the University of Chicago, and earned her BFA at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1948, and her MFA at the University of Iowa in 1950.

Mar 03, 2021 · That same year he married classmate and fellow artist Ellen Lanyon. They subsequently completed their MFAs at the University of Iowa in 1950 where he worked with Mauricio Lasansky. Roland’s postgraduate studies occurred at The Slade School as well as the Central School of Arts and Crafts in London, UK while Lanyon was on a Fulbright Fellowship.
