Elsa Warnick was raised in Tacoma, Washington and attended Reed College in Portland, Oregon where she earned a BA in Fine Arts with a certificate from Pacific NW College of Art.Elsa exhibited drawings and watercolors until 1984, and then began a career as a freelance illustrator on packaging, annual reports, posters, maps, cards, and conceptual series in magazines, books, and pamphlets.
