WALTERS, EVAN JOHN (1893 - 1951), artist. Born 6 January 1893 in the Welcome Inn, Mynydd-bach, Llangyfelach, near Swansea, Glamorganshire, son of Welsh -speaking parents, Thomas Walters and his wife Elizabeth (née Thomas). After attending the village school at Llangyfelach, he became an apprentice painter-decorator at Morriston, Swansea.

Evan John Walters (27 November 1892 – 14 March 1951) was a Welsh artist. Although he remains largely unknown to the Welsh public, Evan Walters (1893-1951) is now generally acknowledged as one of the leading Welsh artists of the twentieth century. Born in Llangyfelach, near Swansea, he is best remembered for his portraits, and the late Donald Moore has referred to his particular skill in successfully capturing the likeness and personality of his sitters.
