Under the guidance of the National Gallery Director Kenneth Clark, The War Artists Advisory Committee (WAAC) was established in 1939. In total, more than 300 artists were commissioned by the WAAC, including the likes of Henry Moore, Graham Sutherland and Paul Nash.
