Frederick (Fred) Stead (1863 – 1940) was born in Shipley and lived for the latter part of his life at Ghyllwood Drive, Bingley. He painted mainly portraits and local landscapes. He studied art, initially at the Saltaire Art School in Shipley and was awarded a scholarship to study at the National Art Training School in London (later renamed The Royal College of Art).
