Gary Moss is a wildlife artist that has spent his entire life fishing, hunting, observing. His father was an avid duck hunter and instilled in him the love of the outdoors. When Gary first asked to go duck hunting his father required that he learn to identify all of the species in Sports Afield's guide to "The Ducks and Geese of North America."

USMC Combat Art Although most people know Gary Moss as a premier wildlife artist, not as many people know that he was a USMC combat artist during the Viet Nam War. The painting pictured above is a new work of a scene that he had wanted to do since being discharged December 8, 1970.

Upon graduation, Gary served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a combat artist followed by four years working as a graphic designer. Gary’s love, understanding and regard for wildlife compelled him to devote himself fulltime to painting which he has done since. A native of Minnesota, Gary works and lives at his studio in Cambridge, Minnesota.

Moss was drafted in 1968, and became a United States Marine Combat (USMC) Artist in Vietnam. In 1970, he was named the USMC Combat Artist of the Year. By 1976, he was a professional wildlife artist and moved to Cambridge, Minnesota.
